Peter Daw has previously taught in 3 secondary schools before becoming a lecturer in English Literature in Higher Education and a teacher trainer, contributing to primary and secondary teacher education as well as completing a doctorate in linguistics.

Peter has acted as English adviser (0-19) for Suffolk LEA, publishing widely, and in 1996 he became an HMI, initially inspecting teacher education but soon gaining the role of national Subject Adviser in Ofsted, responsible for the inspection and reporting of English, drama, media and libraries.

From 2003 Peter led the team of HMI subject advisers and in 2005 he was appointed as Senior Regional Director for the National Strategies in the South West, leading a team of regional advisers to support and challenge local authority senior staff on educational standards and targets and to secure improvements in schools of concern. As an educational consultant Peter has worked as an Education Adviser for the Department for Education.
