Academy Supports Local Foodbank

Date: December 21st 2017

Darwen Aldridge Community Academy students and staff produced an amazing response to the school’s annual Christmas collection appeal this week to support the Tressell Trust’s Foodbank in Blackburn.

The Trust has a network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in local communities across the UK.

DACA has supported the foodbank for the last four years, but this year’s collection, launched in November, has been the largest so far.

Margaret Bradshaw, from DACA’s Student Services team said:

“We had a huge response from students, teachers and extended families/friends.  Mrs Beaumont (Vice Principal) actually decided that she would donate a large amount of food instead of buying family Christmas presents. Mrs Huddleston (Education Welfare Officer) organised a raffle to win a cake raising £120 which contributed to buying some children’s’ luxury items for the collection.”

“It has been a great pleasure to support such an essential charity. We know that many local families use the foodbank on a regular basis and that Christmas can be such a difficult time financially for many people.”
