Darwen Aldridge Community Academy students enjoyed some STEM careers advice with a difference this week. Multinational defence, security, and aerospace company BAE Systems presented a roadshow to all year 8 at DACA with the help of some unique technology. The BAE team were joined by a 70cm high android talking, thinking and sensing robot, demonstrating the capabilities of advanced robotics to the students. The robot was then literally blown away by the wind force of a paramotor.
Inspiring students to be involved STEM subjects, the roadshow mainly focussed on the importance of maths. Pupils were involved in a number of challenges like predicting where a heavy metal ball would land in the drainpipe challenge and using mathematical skills to balance aircrafts on the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier.
