The University Technical College offers specialist GCSE and sixth form courses in TV, Film, Game Development, Photography and Graphic Design, and is also home to Fates academy, the popular performing arts school set up by Brookes with Gareth Gates.
The 31-year-old actress recently took time out of her busy filming schedule meet potential students at a packed opening evening as the college looked to offer them their own pathway to stardom.
“The UTC is a brilliant college, there are so many opportunities for the kids here,” said Brookes.
“There’s just so many different courses on offer tailored to getting involved in the media industry.
“Everyone needs their break in the industry, it’s really tough, so I’m trying to do my bit to help find new talent.”
Brookes, 31, won the 2017 National Television Most Popular Newcomer award and is widely-tipped for more success in her blossoming career. The Manchester-born star is working closely with the UTC and her fiancé Gareth Gates, a former Pop Idol runner-up who has sold more than 3.5 million records in the UK.
Brookes added: “It seemed like the perfect partnership for Fates Academy to team up with the UTC.
“We wanted to be based in the heart of Manchester – and Media City is right at the centre of everything great that’s happening in the city.”
A view shared by chart-topping star Gates, 34, a former Smash Hits Awards winner, who recently finished a successful stint playing Prince Charming in Cinderella pantomime at the Manchester Opera House.
“We love it at the UTC, it’s a great base for running our Academy and trying to help the stars of the future get a foot on the ladder.”
