DACA’s Young Writers Make It Into Print

Date: May 10th 2019

Six Darwen Aldridge Community Academy students will see their writing published in a new anthology, “Mission Catastrophe Lancashire Tales”, this year after entering a national competition.

Sammy Brown (Y11), Georgina Brown (Y9), Sian Edwards (Y9), Jentai Scales (Y8), Will O’Hara (Y8) and Ibtihaj Aziz (Y7) took part in the Young Writers Mission Impossible: Catastrophe Competition. Young Writers was established with the aim of encouraging young people to enjoy creative writing by seeing their work in print. The organisation has worked with schools, parents and young writers since 1991, running national poetry and creative writing competitions.

Principal Lisa Dolan said: “We are very pleased to announce that they have all been selected as finalists and their stories have been published in the anthology, “Mission Catastrophe Lancashire Tales. These students are committed writers and attend our Young Writers Club. They all started attending in Year 7 and have been enjoying the creative writing sessions ever since.”
