Brendan Loughran, the founding Principal of Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, has been appointed as Executive Principal for the four schools in Darwen that are members of our Trust.
Having been appointed into the interim role in July his permanent appointment follows a formal interview process with the multi-academy trust last month. As well as supporting the principals at DACA, Darwen Vale High School, Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio and Sudell Primary School, his role will have a wider remit is to develop the Aldridge Education cluster of schools in the North West.
Brendan Loughran was Principal of DACA for eight years, leading the academy from its inception to a GOOD Ofsted rating in 2013. Admissions have continued to rise with the academy oversubscribed for year seven entry in the last two years.
Chris Tweedale, Chief Executive, said: “Brendan has shown by his track record that he is an exceptional school leader, and his appointment is a natural progression for the Trust. We are very ambitious for our schools in the North West and are delighted that Brendan will now be expanding his role to that of Executive Principal for our schools in the region.”
“Brendan will work with each of the schools to continue to improve the education we offer to all of our young people across the community, and will also be working with other head teachers and governors who wish to explore joining our growing and ever more successful Trust.”
Brendan Loughran said: “In January 2007 I first started working for Aldridge in the Darwen Community. It has been a privilege leading the development and growth of DACA over the last ten years in what has been an incredible experience of improving education provision. I am delighted that in becoming Executive Principal I can continue to work with everyone at DACA and at the same time work with all of our schools on their journeys of school improvement.”
In September it was announced that Vice Principal David Cane would take up the role of interim Principal at DACA. Initially, this was to be shared with Vice Principal Fiona Beaumont from Christmas, but will now continue in to the spring term, in part due to Fiona’s intention to undertake school improvement training in 2017.
With Brendan Loughran’s new post confirmed Aldridge Education will shortly be advertising the permanent Principal role at DACA. They will also be advertising for the permanent Principal at Darwen Vale, where David Hallam has been interim Principal since the retirement of Fiona Jack in the summer.
Chris Tweedale added: “We expect to attract a strong field of candidates for both roles from internal and external applicants.”
