Students from Portslade Aldridge Community Academy welcomed residents from near-by Hazelholt sheltered accommodation this week with a three course meal.
Hazelholt, located opposite the Academy, provides retirement and sheltered housing for some of the elderly members of our community. Over the past year students having been visiting Hazelholt once a week to cook a three course meal and socialise with the residents. The residents have reported to sometimes feeling isolated, and the resident manager has identified people who would really benefit from a healthy eating course. Many residents rely on ready meal, which they heat in the microwave and then eat alone.
PACA Head of PSHE and teacher Dean Flynn: ‘This fantastic project in association with: Cooking and Company enables students to make new connections with other people living locally to them, while helping the residents to develop valuable skills and reducing the feeling of isolation that they may be experiencing.’
“Today is a special day, as the students from PACA will be inviting the residents to the academy where they will use the Food Tech facilities and dine together! As winner of Community School of the Year 2016 – this is just one of many community projects run by PACA.”
