Northumberland Park School Announces Intention To Join The Trust

The governing body of Northumberland Park Community School in Haringey has decided to convert to academy status as part of Aldridge Education following an extensive consultation with staff, parents, students, local education institutions, the trade unions, the local authority and others in the community of the school.

Northumberland Park Community School is a mixed gender school for students aged 11-16 in Tottenham, London N17. It has over 1000 students on roll.

The Chair of Governors Malcolm Weston said at the start of the public consultation: “We want this good school to become an outstanding one.  We have therefore sought the best way of achieving this.”

Headteacher Monica Duncan said: “After careful review of the options available, the governing body has concluded that this is the best way to get the additional support and challenge to enable us to achieve our goal of being an outstanding school.  Aldridge Education has a track record of success in improving achievement in schools like ours, and high aspirations which coincide with our own.”

In a joint letter following the decision Ms Duncan and Mr Weston stated that:

“The governing body is very committed to the existing ethos of the school and in particular to

  • ensuring every child from the most challenged to the most able is supported with the right expertise to do their best;
  • maintaining its strong pastoral and house systems and its programmes of enrichment and aspiration for its students;
  • keeping longstanding programmes of support and access for the local community and provision for out of school activities;
  • continuing its partnership with other schools and in particular its special inclusive and close working with the Vale school.

These are built into the school’s vision and its development plan. We have chosen Aldridge Education because they share these values and have given us a commitment that the support they give us will be based around building and extending this vision and the school’s plan for achieving it.

“The governing body will seek to ensure that all in the school community are kept informed of the development of the proposals and their implementation which is planned for 1 September 2017.”
