UTC@MediaCityUK has become the eight school to join our multi-academy trust.
Following a successful bid to The Department for Education in May 2012, led by the Aldridge Foundation, the University of Salford and the Lowry the UTC opened in September 2015 under the joint sponsorship of the three organisations. It’s £10.4m 6,200 sqm campus is located in the heart of the MediaCityUK development in Salford, surrounded by major employers in the digital and media sectors the UTC specialises in. The UTC building was formally opened by BBC Director-General Tony Hall, who said: “This college is nurturing the next generation of creative talent – the next generations of digital innovators. You can just sense a real entrepreneurial spirit, here and there’s a great sense of adventure already.”
August 2018 exam results saw over half (55%) of A-Level and BTEC results at top A*-B or equivalent, with 41% of all students achieving at least three of the top grades. At GCSE level over 35% of students got top grades 9-7 in Creative Digital Media Production.
Chair of the UTC’s Local Governing Committee, Graham Cowley, said: “The additional capacity we can access by joining the Aldridge Education multi-academy trust secures the College’s future and allows us to build on encouraging results over summer to maintain improvement. We are looking forward to working closely with our new family of schools in the north west, giving opportunities for our students and staff to accelerate their development. In turn the College brings a specialism in Creative and Digital skills to the MAT, as well as strong employer links through being based in the UK’s most prominent digital and media location.”
