With over twenty years of experience in education, Adanma Umunna is the Principal of UTC@harbourside. Born and raised in London, Adanma gained a degree in engineering at the University of Warwick before embarking on a career teaching technology and engineering in schools. As a senior leader she has a wealth of experience in enabling young people to achieve their best.

Adanma said: “We offer students from 14 to 18 an excellent academic and technical education focused on science, technology, engineering and maths. Engineering is the catalyst linking subjects here, and at the UTC the learning will be applied to solve real-world problems.

We are based on the harbour in Newhaven in a unique, heritage building which has been fully refurbished. A testament to outstanding design and engineering, it has now been transformed into a 21st century learning environment that inspires students here. Our unique setting is reflected in our values; we place our environment and creating a sustainable future, high on our list of priorities. We are in fact within the UNESCO recognised Brighton & Lewes Downs Biosphere and close to the South Downs National Park.

The UTC benefits from excellent rail and bus links across Sussex; a gateway to Europe with all the opportunities that can bring to students. So passports need to be ready!

Our mission is to prepare young people to succeed in an ever changing world through an exciting technological learning experience here. Our futures will be shaped by advanced technologies, many not yet invented. We provide the academic and technical education required along with an entrepreneurial mindset that will place our focused students ahead of the competition when it comes to securing a job, heading to university or turning brilliant ideas into a businesses of their own.”
