Charlie's Flash Fiction Celebrates Refugee Week

To mark Refugee Week 2021 Brighton and Hove Libraries ran a Flash Fiction competition, challenging local writers to create stories of a maximum of 50 words on the theme ‘We Cannot Walk Alone'. These were judged in three categories: under 12s; under 18s; and adults.

Congratulations to Brighton Aldridge Community Academy Year 9 student Charlie who was the category runner up. You can read why below:

A new language. A new country. A new life.
I had nothing. Nobody even.
My mind was neglected, and I was alone. Isolated from this world. But he
came along and changed everything. He gave my life light. Brighter than ever
before. It was sunnier, and the clouds were gone.
He made my existence worth living.
He made me not to be alone.
