Growing Together NPQ Spotlight - Lou Brown
In this blog series, we shine a spotlight on the NPQ courses we have on offer in partnership with Teach First, including showcasing some of our fantastic programme members.
Today’s post is a spotlight on… Lou Brown who is the subject leader for English at UTC Warrington. She completed her NPQLT (Leading Teaching) in Autumn 2024.
In the ever-evolving landscape of education, strong leadership is more crucial than ever. Today, we're thrilled to share a conversation with Lou, a dedicated educator who has just completed her National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching (NPQLT). Lou's journey is a testament to the transformative power of professional development and the impact it can have on both educators and their students. And here's the exciting part: we have funded places available for the April NPQ course! If you're passionate about leading teaching and eager to make a difference, you could be as fortunate as Lou. Read on to discover Lou's journey and find out how you can apply for this opportunity yourself.

Why did you want to complete an NPQ?
I strongly believe that, as a teacher, I am always learning and can always improve my performance. I wanted to study the NPQLT in order to become a better leader – to motivate and empower my staff to strive for excellence so that all students can reach their full potential.
How has your NPQ impacted on your work in school?
The NPQLT offered me an invaluable insight into how students learn. I have used this knowledge to plan a range of activities for my students who learn in a variety of different ways. My main takeaways have also been focused around assessment and how to make more use of it in the classroom.
What are you hoping to do next with what you have learnt from the course?
I plan to rewrite my schemes of learning and create more opportunities for recall so that my students can process information into their working memory more easily.
What are the main reasons someone should consider completing a Teach First/ Aldridge Education NPQ?
There is a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips. The course is filled with evidence-based research that will enable you to become a better leader.
Lou found out last week that she passed her NPQLT! An huge congratulations from the whole Growing Together team. If Lou's story has sparked your interest, remember that you too can seize this opportunity. With funded places available for the April NPQ course, the chance to enhance your leadership skills and make a lasting impact is just within reach. Apply now and let learning be at your fingertips.
