Darwen Enterprise Studio School Principal Colin Grand says his 6th form students are celebrating a set of results that truly acknowledge the enterprising and creative talent of the young people of Blackburn & Darwen.
The Studio had a 100% pass rate at A-Level with over half being A*-B grades. 50% of Studio students received unconditional offers for university places this year.
TV and film production students have achieved an average grade of a Distinction and look forward to moving onto a range of prestigious universities to study Film production. A-Level students have also achieved some outstanding grades, on average three quarters of a grade above their targets.
Callum Mead who has achieved grades – A-Level Photography A, A-Level Graphics B, Media production Double Distinction said: “I’m thrilled with my results and can look forward to studying Film making at Leeds university. The opportunities I have received at the Studio have really helped me to progress and prepare for my career in creative industries.”
Jake Brennan has decided to set up his own freelance photographic business. He said: “I have achieved a grade A in A-Level photography and Distinction and Merit in film production and through a range of commissions and briefs I have realised I’m ready to set up my own enterprise.”
Kirsty Prescott progresses onto a degree in Engineering at UCLAN following a brace of outstanding results that include a double distinction* in film production.
Megan Boyd and Ana Diaconu have both received several unconditional offers from universities and have decided to study Film making at Leeds and interior design at Salford.
Principal Colin Grand said: “We are thrilled with a set of results that are above the national average in creative disciplines.
Working to live briefs, their involvement in real commissions and links with industry specialists enables Studio students to really stand out with a portfolio of experiences and grades that make them very employable. A real highlight this year has been the collaboration of staff and students on the Studio film ‘Soil’. A short film written and directed by Studio staff, Scott Feast and Mark Woodward, enabled Year 13 film students to work on a real film set and gain industry experience. Every student who worked on the ‘Soil’ film gained unconditional offers to universities.”
